OSHAWA - Employees at the Canadian headquarters of General Motors in Oshawa have been asked to attend a Tuesday morning satellite briefing by CEO Robert Wagoner.
The company will announce its plans to deal with declining sales and answer questions about its future.
newsdurhamregion.com has learned the office workers will be arriving early at the office on Colonel Sam Drive to hear the briefing at 8:30 a.m.
Mr. Wagoner is expected to speak for approximately 20 minutes via satellite from Detroit before briefing reporters at a 9 a.m. news conference.
He will "discuss actions the company is taking to align the business to current market conditions," according to a news release issued late Monday afternoon.
High gasoline prices have hit General Motors hard with a dramatic drop in sales of trucks and sport utility vehicles. The company has already announced plans to close the Oshawa truck plant in 2009 -- eliminating 2,600 jobs -- as well as three other manufacturing plants in North America.
One report out of Detroit Monday night predicts white collar jobs will be on the line this time around.
newsdurhamregion.com and northumberlandnews.com will be updating this story throughout the morning and updates will also be available on Internet-enabled handhelds at mobile.newsdurhamregion.com.
