Uxbridge park gets lighting upgrade

UXBRIDGE -- Bonner Fields is set to undergo an eco-lighting makeover.
The Township approved the replacement of 64 outdated lighting fixtures which illuminate the two baseball diamonds in the park. "I have looked into replacing (only) the bulbs and ballast in the current fixtures, but it is cheaper to go with a complete unit replacement," said Bob Ferguson, parks manager, in a report to council June 23. "The new fixtures are also the most energy efficient units available."
The cost of the new lighting is $17,564 with another fee of $9,425 to install the units.
Mr. Ferguson said following the June 23 meeting there will be no downtime for leagues while the work is in progress, explaining the lights will be replaced one at a time. He hopes the work will be completed before the end of July.
The Township is also upgrading to more efficient lighting at Town Hall, and is considering LED lighting for downtown.
